Hingham High School Girls Tennis vs. Quincy HS

Hingham High School Girls Tennis defeated  Quincy High School  5-0 today, Wednesday,  5/11/16 in  league action. 
 
 
1st singles:  Alli Burton from Hingham defeated Tien Le from Quincy 6-0, 6-2.

2nd singles:  Jackie Vanzura from Hingham defeated Erika Sato from Quincy 6-0, 6-0.

3rd singles:  Katie Dolan from Hingham defeated Megi Maci from Quincy 6-2, 6-1. 

1st doubles:   Elizabeth Croteau and Paige Shetty from Hingham defeated Kalima Bukenya and Vivian Tran from Quincy 6-3, 6-2.

2nd doubles: Francesca Corrado and Emma Rowe from Hingham defeated Wendy Zhou and Juple Zheng from Quincy 6-3, 6-0.

"Hingham is now 11-0 in-league and 12-0 overall."

> The Whitman-Hanson baseball team lost to Plymouth North today 2-0 , splitting the two game series with its league opponent.

> Senior Jayson Keenan pitched 6 strong innings of 2-hit ball, but the 2 hits followed a lead off walk in the Plymouth North third inning, with Nicklas knocking in North's 2 runs with 2 outs.
>
> Keenan walked 3 and struck out 3 for Whitman-Hanson. He also picked off 2 Plymouth North runners.
>
> Unfortunately, Whitman-Hanson could only muster 1 hit against Plymouth North's Don Cohoon, who went the distance, striking out 4 and also walking 3.

> The lone Whitman-Hanson hit was by senior Tom Chmura.
>
> The Panthers had runners on first and third with 2 outs in the top of the fourth, but Cohoon got the strike out to end the Whitman-Hanson threat.

> The Whitman-Hanson Panthers came from behind to beat Duxbury 4-3 with a walk-off single by pinch-hitter Ryan Amado in the bottom of the seventh inning.

> Losing 3-2 in their last at bat, Mickey Martell led off with a single, was bunted to second by Jim Dolan, and no out was made on the play. Tom Chmura then bunted and on the throwing error Martell scored to tie the game.

> With Dolan on third and one out , senior Ryan Amado came off the bench and delivered an infield single scoring Dolan.

> Dolan started on the mound for the Panthers , going 4 plus innings and giving uop 3 runs. Tim DeCouto came on and pitched 2 innings of relief before Jason Keenan pitched a scoreless seventh to keep the Panthers in it.

Jason Johndrow pitched a complete game striking out 5 to improve to 3-0. Jack Ruprecht (2 RBI) and Dan Collins (double, RBI) each had two hits to pace the Lakers. With the win Silver Lake qualified for the state tournament for the 8th consecutive year.

Nick Forney pitched a complete game for Pembroke.

5/7/16 Non-league baseball score: Silver Lake 3 West Springfield 1

Anthony Videtto (3-4, HR 2 RBI) was the shining star as he hit a one out walk off two run home run to give Silver Lake the win. Videtto also pitched a complete game striking out 7 and allowing only 4 hits.

Trever Dennett had a big two out RBI double that played Jason Johndrow who was running on the pitch to give the Lakers and early lead in the 4th.

West Springfield's Nick Dombkowski was the hard luck loser pitching a complete game 6.

W/H Boys Lacrosse 5/6

In Patriot league action. WH Boys lacrosse team defeated Pembroke 13-12. The game was battle for all 48 minutes. The lead changing hand a few times in the 2nd half. With the game tied, Freshman Riley White hit Sophomore Jake Long with a nice feed. Long buried it with just over a minute to play to win it. Panthers scoring was Junior Ryan Kennedy with a hat trick and 2 assists, Captain Dylan Thomas 1 goal and 4 assist, Jake Long had 2 goals, Junior Kyle Nelihey had a goal, Senior Kyle Bina continued Hot streak with 3 goals and 1 assist, Freshman Mason Gorman 2 goals, Freshman Riley White 1 goal and 2 assist, Freshman Mike Conors and Sean Joanis each had assist as well. Panthers are 7-5 on season.

WH Girls Lacrosse

The Whitman-Hanson Girls Varsity Lacrosse team played Plymouth South today at home and came away with a 22-3 win. The Panthers came roaring out of the gate and scored 4 goals in the first 5 minutes. They didn't let up as they took a 14-2 lead into the half. WH defense played so well that starter Kasey Molito only saw 7 shots and saved 5 in the first half. The Panthers had 16 assists on their 22 goals. Rachel Kelly led the way with 4 goals and 3 assists. Lauren Bonavita ( 4 assists ), Rylee Holmes ( 2 assists ), and Gabby Majenski ( 2 assists ) each had a hat trick. Also scoring for the Panthers was Mikayla White (2 goals, 2 assist), Taylor McVeigh ( 2 goals, 1 assist), Ali Joanis ( 1 goal, 2 assists), Emily Burnett ( 2 goals), and Connor Holland and Riley MacDonald with their first goals of the year. The win puts the Panthers at 7-5 on the season ( 4-2 league ).

> In driving rain the WH boys lacrosse team defeated Silver Lake 15-5. Panthers got going early and kept up pressure all game. Defense lead by Captains Joe Arico and Joe Yakavonis pressured SL into turnovers Panthers scoring were as follows. Senior Kyle Bina with 4 goals and 6 assist. Captain Dylan Thomas had hat trick, Sophomore Jake Long hat trick and 2 assist, Junior Ryan Kennedy 2 goals, Sophomore Kyle Nelihey 1 goal, Freshman Mike Conors and Sean Joanis each had a goal as well. Host Whitman-Hanson Regional defeated Coyle Cassidy 1-0 in a rain shortened game called after 5 full innings. Brenndan Rogers won his fourth game against 1 defeat as he threw 5 more shutout innings while striking out 9 and scattering 4 hits. Coyle Cassidy pitcher Evan Ferris gave up only two hits and struck out 7, but one of the hits was a long homerun to centerfield by Whitman-Hanson third baseman Nick Spyropoulos in the bottom of the fifth.

GIrls Lacrosse SL over PS 9-8

Silver Lake girls lacrosse picked up a win today at home over Plymouth South 9-8.  In a tight 1 goal game Jess Huard, Lea Mason, Cam Daly and Nina Whidden each scored 2 goals for the Lakers.  Colby Nolan had 9 saves with 2 very big ones coming in the last 2 minutes.  Katie Daley had 3 goals and Abby Buker had 2 for the Panthers in the loss.  Silver Lake is now 3-7 on the season.

Whitman Hanson Girls Outdoor Track & Field

The Whitman-Hanson Girls Track & Field team improved to 2-1 with a 99-28 win over Quincy at home on Tuesday afternoon. Junior Alexandra Santos with wins in the Long Jump (16') and the 100 Dash (12.4), along with a 2nd place finish in the 400 (62.5), and Freshman Dorothy Donohue with wins in the 100 Hurdles (17.5) and Triple Jump (31' 5") and a 2nd place in the High Jump (4' 4") led the way. Other double winners included Senior Captain Samantha Coletti in the 400 (60.1) and 400 Hurdles (69.0) and Sophomore Julia Cosgrave in the 2 MIle (13:38) and Discus (48' 10".

WH Girls Lacrosse

> The Whitman-Hanson Girls Varsity Lacrosse team played Hanover in a league match up at home. Hanover jumped up to a 6-1 lead in the 1st half. The Panthers wouldn't go away and kept fighting until the last horn. Leading the offense was Ali Joanis ( 3 goals , 1 assist) and Lauren Bonavita (2 goals, 1 assist). Also scoring for WH was Emily Burnett (1 goal), Rylee Holmes ( 1 goal), Rachel Kelly ( 1 goal, 2 assists ), Gabby Majenski ( 1 goal ), and Taylor McVeigh ( 1 goal). Kasey Molito had 11 saves vs a very potent offense. The 12-10 loss brings the Panthers to 6-5 overall (4-2 league).

Whitman-Hanson Girls Track & Field




Behind a 1st place finish from Senior Captain Samantha Coletti and Juniors Alexandra Santos, Lily Nolan and Olivia Morse in the Sprint Medley Relay, the Panthers finished 12th in Sunday's Division 2 Relay Meet at Marshfield High School.  Coletti (1200) combined with Jr Lily Perkins and Senior Captains Jill O'Leary (800) and Abbie Newman (Mile) to take 4th place in the Distance Medley.  Santos, Perkins and Sr Olivia Reed took 5th place in the Long Jump.

WH Girls Lacrosse

> The Whitman-Hanson Girls Varsity Lacrosse team played a non-league game at Hull today. The defense was phenomenal for WH as they held Hull to only 8 shots in 50 minutes. Kasey Molito saved 5 of those shots. Jess Nihan, Gabby Majenski, Rachel Kelly,Taylor McVeigh, Mel McAleer, Meg Johnson, and Camille Miller led the defensive charge. Kelly also was fierce on offensive end as she had 4 goals and 1 assist. Also scoring for the Panthers was McAleer (2 goals, 1 assist), McVeigh ( 1 goal, 1 assist ), Rylee Holmes ( 1 goal, 2 assists ), Majenski ( 1 goal), Ali Joanis ( 1 goal), and Emily Burnett had her first goal of the season. The 11-3 win brings the Panthers to 6-4 on the season (4-1 league).

The results of this past Wednesday's match were Hingham 5.5- .5 against Braintree and Wellesley beat us 4-2.

W/H Boys Lacrosse 4/29

> W/H Boys lacrosse defeated E. Bridgewater 16-4 in non-league action. Panthers struggled to get moving in first quarter. Just before half Boys found their stride and put game out of reach. Panthers were Lead by Senior Jack Molito in net. Panthers defense shut out E. Bridgewater in 2nd half. Strong defense lead by Captains Joe Arico and Joe Yakavonis stifled EB attempts to get back into game. Scoring for the Panthers was Senior Kyle Bina with 8 goals. Also contributing was Junior Ryan Kennedy 3 goals and 3 assist, Captain Dylan Thomas 3 goals 3 assist, Sophomore Jake Long 3 goals 1 assist. Freshman Mason Gorman had goal and assist. Panthers are 5-4 on season

Jason Johndrow (2-0) pitched a complete game striking out 6 and did not allow an earned run. Jason also got the game winning hit. Silver Lake was trailing 3-2 in the 6th when Johndrow plated the tying and winning runs with a single up the middle through a drawn in infield.

Anthony Videtto went 3-3 w a long double and an RBI and Mike Melanson executed a suicide squeeze to perfection and made a tremendous diving catch in RF.

The 1rst dubs team of Julia Bailey and Jill Whalen defeated Erica Dillon and Jess Giglotti6-2,6-3 and 2nd dubs team of Kelly Fleming and Jessie Gaudreau defeated Emma Grimm and Lily Christello 6-2 6-3. Whitman Hanson is now 4-4.

The Panthers traveled to Silver Lake High School Thursday afternoon, losing to Plymouth North High School by a score of 96-40.  Senior Captain Samantha Coletti won both the 400 Meter Hurdles (1:06.8) and 800 Meters (2:20) in the losing effort, while Plymouth North standouts Jordan Callahan and Jackie Sullivan led the Plymouth North squad. Whitman-Hanson's Alexandra Santos was also impressive winning the 100 Meter sprint (12.6) and taking 2nd place in both the 200 (26.9) and Long Jump (16' 1".)

Whitman-Hanson Girls Varsity Lacrosse beat Plymouth South, 12-7 at Forges field today. WH came out firing with Ali Joanis scoring 2 goals within the first few minutes. Ali and Lauren Bonavita both went on to record hat tricks. Also scoring for the Panthers was Gabby Majenski with 2 goals and Rylee Holmes, Taylor McVeigh, Mik White, and Olivia Zimmerman all had one goal each. The Panthers are now 5-4 on the season (4-1 league).

> W/H Boys lacrosse got back in the win column today. Beating Plymouth South 15-5 in league action. Panthers got a strong performance in net from Sophomore Jack Ryan. Panthers turned it on in the second half to pull away with the victory. Panthers were lead in the scoring department by Captain Dylan Thomas 4 goals and 2 assist. Sophomore Jack long had 3 goals and 1 assist, Freshman Mason Gorman had 3 goals, Freshman Mike Conors had 2 goals, Freshman Sean Jonis had 2 goals, Senior Kyle Bina scored 1 goal and also had assist. Junior Ryan Kennedy had 4 assist, Freshman Riley White had 4 assists as well. the win puts Panthers at 4-4 on season.

Girls Lacrosse - Pembroke over Silver Lake

Pembroke girls lacrosse beat Silver Lake 16-5 in Kingston. Pembroke got off to an early 8-0 lead and never looked back.  Leading the way for Pembroke were Emily Rogers with 6 goals, Sarah Flaherty and Erica Tinlin each had 3 and Baily Parks chipped in 2 for the Titans.  Ann Chapman scored her first varsity goal and Lea Mason had 3 goals in the loss  for Silver Lake which now falls to 1-3 on the season.

Freshman Alex Heffernan earned his first Varsity win (1-0) as he carried a no-hitter into the 6th.

The Lakers burst out for 8 runs in the top of the 1st and never looked back as Will Gallagher (3-5, a triple, a double and 2 RBI 2 runs scored) and Anthony Videtto (4-4, BB, 2 RBI 2 runs scored) paced the Laker barrage. Jack Ruprecht and Greg Wozniak also chipped in with two hits of their own.

WH Girls Lacrosse

> The Whitman-Hanson Girls Varsity Lacrosse team played an away game against Bridgewate-Raynham in a non - league matchup. The Panthers went down by 5 goals in the first 5 minutes of the game. WH battled back to come within 2 goals at the half. The Panthers managed to win the draw more often and control the
> draw in the second half despite being down 4 goals at one point early. Once the offense started clicking, the Panthers were fighting for every loose ball and every goal. They tied the game 12-12 with less than a minute to go off of a nice assist from Rachel Kelly (3 goals, 3 assists) to Mel McAleer (2 goals). Then after a great save by Kasey Molito (12 saves), Rylee Holmes came barreling in for the go ahead goal with seconds left to lead the Panthers to a 13-12 victory. Ali Joanis had a hat trick and Gabby Majenski (2 goals, 2 assists), Taylor McVeigh (1 goal), and Lauren Bonavita (1 goal) all scored for WH. The win puts the Panthers at 3-1 on the season (2-0 league).

SL v WH 4-1!!

Silver Lake Boys tennis had a great 4-1  win over Whitman -Hanson today.  Playing a solid match at first singles was senior tri-captain Patrick Kelley. At second singles, Josh Bean senior tri-captain played a hard fought match  winning in two sets.  Freshman Dylan Capaccioli playing in his first varsity match 
went three sets to secure his win.  Senior tri-captain Justin Conner and freshman Dario Mendez had some outstanding points, however, lost.  Second doubles team of Connor White sophomore and Mike Fay junior clinched their match in two sets.

Dan Collins was terrific in relief going 4 1/3 striking out 5 and Trever Dennett (1-0) got the win getting the final 5 outs. Collins and Dennett each had big 2 run hits in the top of the 7th as Silver Lake rallied from down 4-3 to take the lead 9-4. Anthony Videtto went 3-3 with a home run and two runs scored for the Lakers.

Whitman-Hanson took a 4-3 lead in the 5th when Mickael Martell singled with two out to drive in two. Jim Dolan pitched well for Whitman-Hanson.

W/H Boys Lacrosse team rebounded nicely in league action. Defeating Silver Lake 13-6. Sophomore Jack Ryan got his 1st start in net and came up big all day. His outlet passes setting up fastbrakes all game. Junior Ryan Kennedy had 2 goals and 5 assists. Senior Kyle Bina and Freshman Mason Gorman had 3 goals apiece. Also scoring were Freshman Mike Conors ,Riley White, Sean Jonis. Senoir Captains Joe Arico and Dylan Thomas chipped in 1 apiece. Panther turned it on in the 3rd quarter and never looked back. The win puts the Panthers at 3-1 on the season.

Whitman-Hanson Girls Track and Field

In a well contested meet, the Whitman-Hanson Panther Girls Track and Field team prevailed against Duxbury at home Wednesday afternoon 73-63. W-H held a very slim lead following the running events, but pulled away in the field events behind first place finishers, Freshman Dorothy Donohue, the winner in both the Triple and High Jump, Senior Mikayla Clemens in the Javelin (102.5') and Alexandra Santos in the Long Jump. Senior Captains Abbie Newman (Mile - 5:35) and Samantha Coletti (800 - 2:19), along with Juniors Lily Nolan (200 - 26.8) and Santos (200 - 26.5) all met Eastern Mass Qualifying standards in their events in the win.

WH softball defeats Middleboro

WH softball (1-1) defeated Middleboro 7-1. Jr Capt Emily Cook (1-4 3B R) pitched a complete game allowing 1 ER on 4 Hits with 13 Ks. Sr Capt Maxine Vincent went had went 3-4 (RBI R) and Jr Sarah Saccardo went 2-4 (RBI, 2 R, 2 SB).

Liam Flynn and Jake Cheney each had a hit and scored a run for Hanover.
