Whitman-Hanson Varsity Girls Lacrosse

The Whitman-Hanson Girls Varsity Lacrosse team won a league game versus North Quincy this afternoon 13-6. The Panthers were a little slow in the heat, but still managed to have 7 different scorers. Mel McAleer ( 1 assist) and Zoe Lydon both had hat tricks to lead the way on offense. Also scoring for WH was Taylor McVeigh (2 goals, 3 assists), Olivia Zimmerman ( 2 goals ), Ali Joanis ( goal), Riley MacDonald ( goal ), and Jess Nihan ( goal). Kasey Molito was outstanding in goal with 14 saves. The win brings the Panthers to 3-7 on the season (2-3 league).

WH boys Lax 4/28

WH Boys Lacrosse lost to Plymouth South 8-6. Panthers could never on track and sustain any offense. The loss drops the Panthers to 4-5 on season. Scoring for WH was Sean Joanis 1 goal, Mason Gorman 1 goal, Ryan Kennedy 3 assist, Riley White 1 goal 1 assist, Kyle Nilehy 1 goal, Shane Ross 1 goal, Mike Connors 1 goal. Quinn Sweeney  recorded 21 saves.

Freshman Nolan Hughes pitched his third straight complete game, striking out 3 improving to 3-0 on the season. Alex Bejarano went 3-3 with a run and 2 stolen bases.

Scituate starter Jack Fosythe was the hard luck loser as he pitched a complete game himself striking out 4.

Patriot League Baseball Score Whitman- Hanson 7 Plymouth South 5

The Whitman Hanson Panthers baseball team defeated Plymouth South today 7-5 at Whitman-Hanson.

Matt Josselyn got his first start and win on the mound going 5 1/3 innings , giving up 5 runs on 8 hits, striking out 6 , and walking 2 before being relieved by John Murphy in the sixth.

Luke Tamulevich came on in the seventh, and after hitting the lead-off batter, saw his defense turn a 6-4-3 double play. Another groudball helped him retired the P-S 3, 4 and 5 hitters in order to end the game.

Ethan Phelps went 4 for 4 on the day for Whitman-Hanson, while Ty Long and Austin Hyde had 2 hits each for the Panthers.

Whitman-Hanson is now 6-1 overall and 5-0 in Patriot League play.

WH softball vs PS

WH (6-1, 4-0) defeated Plymouth South 5-0. Sr Emily Cook went 3-4 with an RBI, 2 R and played stellar defense at short. Sr Kristin Arthur (2-4) hit an RBI triple. Jr Colleen Hughes pitched a shutout and went 1-4 with an RBI at the plate.

Patriot League Girls Track & Field

WHITMAN-HANSON 71 - SILVER LAKE 64

The Panthers snuck past a young and talented Silver Lake team in a close meet Thursday afternoon, 71-64. Whitman-Hanson was led by Senior Captain Alexandra Santos who placed first in the 100 Meter Dash (12.7), the Long Jump (16' 2") and the Shot Put (26' 10") and also ran in the winning 4 x 100 Meter Relay team along with Ally Bartlett, Samantha Perkins and Lily Nolan. Bartlett, a Sophomore, also won the 400 Hurdles (74.3) and the Triple Jump (32' 1".) Nolan was a winner in the 200 (26.9.) Other notable performances included Julia Cosgrave in tge Mile (5:54) and Dorothy DiMascio-Donohue in the 100 Hurdles (16.9.

Patriot League Baseball Score 4/27/17 Whitman-Hanson 3 Silver Lake 0

The Whitman-Hanson varsity baseball team defeated Silver Lake this afternoon 3-0.

Junior Co-Captain Jim Dolan turned in another fine pitching performance to get the Panthers through the first 4 1/3 innings before giving way to senior John Murphy in the bottom of the fifth.

Murphy came in with men on first and second and one out and worked out of the jam. He then held Silver Lake scoreless in the bottom of the sixth while striking out 2 S-L batters.

Senior Co-Captain Luke Tamulevich came on to close in the seventh and had a 1-2-3 inning.

Tamulevich also had a big day at the plate, going 3 for 4 with two long doubles, a single and scored twice.

Sophomore Mike Cook was 2 for 3 with a single and a double and 2 RBI .

Whitman-Hanson is now 5-1 over all and 4-0 in the league.

Lake vs PN

Silver Lake rallies to a 7-1 record with a come from behind win against the PN Eagles. Silver Lake held off the Eagles playing a man down and finished regulation tied at 9-9. With just under a minute to go in sudden death Taylor Barnett came up with a game turning defensive play, which led to a free position shot and game winning goal by Cam Daly. 

Next up for the Lakers is the Duxbury Dragons.

The Panthers were only up 4-2 at the half, but the work of Mel McAleer and Taylor McVeigh led to several draw controls in the second half. Ali Joanis led the offense with 5 goals and 2 assists. Also scoring for WH was McVeigh (3 goals, 2 assists), McAleer (3 goals, 1 assist), Zoe Lydon (goal, assist), Olivia Zimmerman (goal), and Mik White (2 assists). Kasey Molito had 12 saves in goal for WH. The win puts the Panthers at 2-7 on the season ( 1-3 league).

The meet came down to the last event with Whitman-Hanson holding a 1 point lead, Silver won the 4x400 relay to secure the victory. Winners for Whitman-Hanson Brett Holmes was a triple winner in the 100 11.4 , Long jump 21' and Triple jump 40'2", Riley Holland won the shot 42'4" and discus 116'6", Joe Coletti won the 400 54.5and the 400 hurdles 61.1, Andrew Newman was the winner in the 2 mile.

Whitman-Hanson Varsity Girls Lacrosse

The Whitman-Hanson Girls Varsity Lacrosse team lost a league game versus Hingham today 15-8 in the freezing cold rain. Hingham rushed out to a quick 3-0 lead, but Whitman-Hanson wouldn't quit and narrowed the lead to 7-5 at the half. Hingham came back with a flurry of goals to pull away in the second half. Kasey Molito was outstanding in goal with 16 saves. On the scoring end, Mel McAleer led the Panthers with 4 goals and 1 assist. Also scoring for WH was Taylor McVeigh ( goal), Ali Joanis (2 goals), and Olivia Zimmerman ( goal ). The loss drops the Panthers to 1-7 on the season (0-3 league).

WH Boys LAX Falls Short

WH Boys Lacrosse lost Patriot League game to Hingham 12-5.  Game was tied 4-4 at Halftime. Panthers scoring was done by Captain Ryan Kennedy 1 goal 1 assist, Ryan Downing 2 goals 1 assist,Riley White 1 goal 1 assist, Mike Connors 1 goal, Shane Ross collected 2 assist.  Quinn Sweeney was cat-like in net with 24 saves. The loss put Panthers at 4-4 on season.

WH Boys Lax wins Thriller

WH Boys Lacrosse team defeated Pembroke 13-12 in Double overtime. Pembroke carried the play for most of the 1st 2 quarters before Panthers tied at 6-6 just before Halftime. Pembroke came out strong in 2nd half and built a 4 goal lead before Panthers rallied to tie game with Captain Ryan Kennedy scoring with 30 seconds left to force OT. In the 1st OT each team had there chances but no scoring.  In 2nd OT Riley White fed Sean Joanis , who buried the shot to win a  thriller! Panthers were paced by Captain Ryan Kennedy 5 goals and 2 assist, Sean Joanis 2 goals, Mason Gorman 2 goals 1 assist, Riley White 2 goals 1 assist , Shane Ross 1 goal, Captain Jake Long 1 goal 3 assist. Defense was lead by Captain Joe Collet, Jake Nixon, Rob Doherty, Ryan Trongone. Captain Owen Lydon was instrumental in coming up with key groundballs . Cam Carpenter pick up his 1st varsity win in net. Panther 4-3 on season.

The Whitman-Hanson Girls Varsity Lacrosse team lost a non-league game versus Pembroke today 13-7. Ali Joanis led the Panthers with 5 goals. Also scoring for the Panthers was Taylor McVeigh (2 goals, 1 assist), Jess Nihan (2 assists), and Mik White ( assist ). Gabby Trongone and Kasey Molito split the time in goal and had 5 saves a piece. The loss drops the Panthers to 1-6 on the season ( 0-2 league ).

WH softball vs Pem

Jr Colleen Hughes (2-4 RBI) pitched a 1-hit complete game shutout to lead WH (5-1, 3-0) to a 7-0 victory over Pembroke. She was backed by great defense from CF Sarah Saccardo who went 2-3 (3B 3R), C Kristin Arthur (2-3 4RBI) and SS Emily (3-3 RBI 3R).

The Whitman-Hanson varsity baseball team defeated Pembroke in Pembroke today , 4-0.

Sophomore Rian Schwede pitched 6 and 1/3 innings of shutout ball before giving way to senior co-captain Luke Tamulevich.

Tamulevich came in with men on first and second and 1 out in the Pembrokethe bottom of the seventh, but after giving up a Pembroke single to load the bases, he stuck out the last 2 hitters to preserve the shutout.

Whitman-Hanson scored 2 runs in the top of the first inning as Tamulevich walked and Ethan Phelps singled. Mike Cook singled home Tamulevich, and Austin Hyde's double brought in Phelps.

The Panthers scored 2 more in the fifth inning as Tamulevich walked again and scored on a Jim Dolan double. Cook, who had 3 hits on the day, then knocked in Dolan.

Tyler Long and Matt Josselyn also had hits for Whitman-Hanson.

Whitman-Hanson is 4-1 overall, and 3-0 in the Patriot League.

SL vs Rockland

Silver Lake advances to 6-1 on the season with a 10-4 win over Rockland.

WH Boys Lax 4/22

WH Boys Lacrosse team beat Hull 8-7 in Non-League action.  8 different Panthers scored. Senior Captain Ryan Kennedy, Junior Captain Jake Long, Junior Kyle Nelihy, Sophomores Sean Joanis, Mason Gorman, Ryan Downing, Mike Connors, Riley White each had a Goal. Sophomore Shane Ross had 2 assist. Defense  played solid all game, with Captains Joe Collet and Owen Lydon leading the way. Sophomores Jake Nixon and Ryan Trongone  played well on defense. Sophomore Quinn Sweeney had 20 saves. Win puts Panthers at 3-3 on season.

Today's win over Quincy advances the Lakers to 5-1 overall with 2 recorded league wins. Cam Daly led the charge on offense with 6 goals. Colleen Foley, Kelly Ford, and Jessi Huard each added a pair. Lyndsay Kramer, Taylor Barnett, and Ann Chapman each added a tally. Silver Lake will take on the Pirates on Friday at Hull.

The Whitman-Hanson Girls Varsity Lacrosse team lost a non-league game versus Scituate today 17-8. The Panthers were led on offense by Ali Joanis & Mel McAleer with 4 goals a piece. Taylor McVeigh, Mik White, and Sami Whitman each had an assist. The defense did a good job of trying to contain a very talented Scituate team. Defense was led by Cam Boyce, Camille Miller, and Jess Nihan. Gabby Trongone had 10 saves in the loss. The loss drops the Panthers to 1-5 on the season ( 0-2 league)

 WH Boys Lacrosse team lost to BR 14-8. WH had the lead at halftime5-4. BR came out and scored 5 quick goals to break game open in second half. Sophomore Sean Joanis had 3 goals and 2 assists, Sophomore Mason Gorman had 2 goals, Senior Captain Ryan Kennedy had a goal and 3 assists. Sophomore Mike Connors and Junior Kyle Neilihy each had a goal. Sophomore Quinn Sweeney was strong in net. Loss drops Panthers to 2-3 on season. Sophomre Jake Nixon and Senior Captain Joe Collett played strong defense in loss.

WH (4-1, 2-0) collected 13 hits including 3 triples to defeat Winter Mills HS, Maryland 7-1. Jr Colleen Hughes scattered 5 hits and 0ER over 7IP and went 3-4 at plate with 2 RBIs. Sarah Saccardo went 2-3 with RBI and R. Julia Pendrak and Hailey Norris had 2 RBIs a piece.

Dan Collins pitched a complete game striking out 6 to improve to 3-0 on the season. Collins also helped his cause with a two run triple in the 1st inning. Aidan O'Neill capped off a 7 run first inning with a 3 run homer as the Lakers sent 11 men to the plate in the first inning.

The Whitman-Hanson Girls Varsity Lacrosse team lost a non-league game versus Bridgewater-Raynham 18-10 this afternoon. Despite a tie score of 9-9 at the half, the Panthers couldn't get their offense going in the second half. Leading the Panthers in scoring was Ali Joanis with 4 goals. Also scoring was Taylor McVeigh (3 goals, 2 assists), Mel McAleer (2 goals, 3 assists),and Sami Whitman (goal, assist). Gabby Trongone had 9 saves in goal for WH. The loss drops the Panthers to 1-4 on the season (0-2 league).

Commonwealth Classic Baseball Score

Freshman Nolan Hughes got his first varsity win in his first varsity start as he defeated defending D1 State Champion West Springfield. En route to the win he pitched a complete game striking out 3.

Trever Dennett (2-3), Josh Harvey (2-3, RBI double), Dan Collins (RBI double) and Mike Quigley (RBI) paced the Laker offense.

Commonwealth Classic

The Division 1 Minnechaug Regional High School Baseball Falcons, ranked number 5 in Western Massachusetts, defeated the Division 2 Whitman-Hanson Panthers in the inaugural Commonwealth Classic baseball tournament held at Plymouth North on Saturday. Organized by Silver Lake Baseball Coach Ken Tocce, the tournament raised money for the Lupus Foundation of America.

In going the distance, sophomore righty Rian Schwede pitched a gem for W-H , giving up 2 earned runs on 7 hits, striking out 2, and walking no one. Ethan Phelps, Jim Dolan, Mike Cook, Austin Hyde and Bob Caliri had singles for Whitman-Hanson. Luke Tamulevich, Matt Josselyn, and Caleb Burke chipped in with great defensive plays to prevent Minnechaug from scoring additional runs.

In the second inning and down 1-0, Minnechaug scored 2 runs on 3 singles by BrianTessicini, Nick Scibelli, and Koby Ray.

Minnechaug's starting pitcher Cam Guyer went 6 innings, giving up 1 earned run in the first inning, striking out 1, and walking 2.

Whitman-Hanson is now 2-0 in the Patriot League and 2-1 overall.

Minnechaug is 4-0 overall.

Other tournament teams that also played a single game Saturday at Plymouth North included Pope John Paul II, Bridgewater Raynham, Silver Lake, Plymouth North ,Taconic, Westfield, West Springfield, and Lincoln Sudbury.

Patriot league Boys tennis

Thursday 4/13 Whitman Hanson @ North Plymouth Boys Tennis

The Panthers dropped a long hard fought match at North Plymouth High school, 3-2 on Thursday. So Christian Marquez show grinded out a long straight-set win over Harry Jenkins at three singles, 6-4,6-4 to put the Panthers ahead 1-0. JR's Jason Bannon and Sean Leahy used their net presence to record a 6-1,6-1 win over Josh Metta and Christian Gusmon at number two doubles, putting the Panthers up 2-0. Plymouth North grabbed their first win as Patrick Cooney defeated JR Tyler Rice 6-4.6-4 in a physical back and forth battle at number two singles. Plymouth North would even the score with a win at number one doubles. Robert Cronin and Greg Schranze defeated So. Matt Hickey and Fr. Brian Fox 6-0,6-0. The match decided came down to the number one singles spot. Sr. Dan Hickey won the first set 6-4 over Plymouth North's Matt Withington. But Withington would battle back to win the final two sets 6-2,6-4 breaking serve in the final game to earn the 3-2 match victory for Plymouth North. The Panthers visit Pembroke on 4/24.

> The Whitman-Hanson Girls Varsity Lacrosse team lost a league game to Silver Lake this afternoon 9-5. Gabby Trongone played very well in her first game in goal with 10 saves for the Panthers. Scoring for WH was Ali Joanis (2 goals), Mel McAleer (1 goal, 3 assists), Riley MacDonald (goal), and Jess Nihan (goal). The loss drops the Panthers to 1-3 on the season ( 0-2 league).

WH softball defeats PN

> WH (3-1, 2-0) defeated PN 7-2. So. Kayla Crawford hit a 2R HR in the 1st inning to set the tone for the Panthers in a 4 R 1st inning. Jr. Colleen Hughes earned the win on the mound and hit a 2R HR. Sr Kelly Burke went 3-3 with 2 2B and 3 RBIs. Sr Sarah Saccardo went 2-3 with a 2B and scored 3 R. Jr Kristin Arthur went 2-3 with a R scored.

Silver Lake advances to 4-0 on the season with a 9-5 win over Whitman-Hanson. Sophomore middie Ann Chapman lead the charge with 3 goals along with Claudia Scigliano. Junior Cam Daly added a pair for the Lakers and senior captain Nina Whidden added another! Next up for the Lakers is Pembroke Tuesday at 10am.

Girls tennis

> The girls tennis team defeated Abington today 5-0. Kylie Corr Jessie Gaudreau and Cathryn Johnson won at 1,2 and 3 singles. At first doubles Hannah Faghan and Lexi Connolly and sisters Mary and Abby Pulling at second doubles . The lady panthers are now 2-2.

Hingham 85 - Whitman-Hanson 50

The Whitman-Hanson Panthers took on talented Hingham High at home Tuesday afternoon and were downed by a score of 85-50.  Whitman-Hanson had some standout performances however  and were led by Senior Captain Alex Santos who took first place finishes in the 100 Meter Dash (12.6), the Shot Put (26' 1") and the Long Jump (16' 2".)  Alex also ran the 4 x 100 along with Ally Bartlett, Lily Nolan and Lillian Perkins-Reisdorf in a new school record of 51.3 seconds.  Ally Bartlett, in addition to the 4 x 100, scored in the 400 Hurdles where she finished 2nd in 77.28 seconds, and third place finishes in both the Discus (68' 4") and Triple Jump (32' .25".)  And Dorothy DiMascio-Donohue was outstanding in addition to the 4 x 100 winning the 100 Hurdles in a personal best of 16.8 seconds and taking second place finishes in both the Discus (72' 5") and Triple Jump (32' .5".)  Senior Captain Lily Nolan also won the 200 in 27.8 after anchoring the record setting 4 x 100 relay team.

Boys tennis Posts Non League Win

> The Panthers swept Marshfield 5-0 in Marshfield on Tuesday. Senior captain Dan Hickey served strong in his 6-1, 6-3 win at number one singles. Junior captain Tyler Rice had strong net play in his 6-1,6-2 win at two singles. Christian Marquez played a balanced all around match at three singles, winning 6-1,6-1. The number one doubles team of Matt Hickey and Brian Fox dominated from start to finish , not dropping a game in their 6-0,6-0 win. The number two doubles team of Jason Bannon and Sean Leahy finished off the sweep with a convincing 6-0,6-2 win

Dan Collins (2-0) was phenomenal pitching a complete game 2 hit shutout striking out 15. Collins helped his own cause with a big hit in the top of the 8th to keep a rally going. Alex Bejarano (double) and Josh Harvey had the other hits for Silver Lake.

Bradley Collins was outstanding in his own right for Plymouth South pitching 7 innings striking out 7 while limiting the Lakers to two hits over that span.

> It was a tale of two meets with Whitman-Hanson winning 5 out of 6 filed events led by double winner Brett Holmes long jump and triple jump, Brian Edwards won the high jump, Riley Holland won the shot put and Alex Oroak won the Javelin. The Panthers swept the triple jump and went 1 and 3 in the high jump and javelin Andrew Newman was the lone Panther winner on the track taking the 2 mile. Next up is Silver Lake

Baseball - Patriot League/ Keenan Division

The Whitman-Hanson Panther Varsity Baseball Team played its first game of the season today, beating Hingham 10-3 in Hingham

Sophomore righty Rian Schwede was on the mound to start the game for W-H and went 2 innings and gave up 1 run.

Senior Matt Josselyn relieved Schwede and pitched 2 innings, and he left with the score tied 3-3.

Senior John Murphy, Senior Co-Captain Luke Tamulevich, and Junior Co-Captain Jim Dolan each threw one of the final 3 innings and held Hingham scoreless.

On offense, sophomore Mike Cook had a big day, in the fourth inning hitting a long 3-run homer over the left-center field fence in Hingham , which gave W-H a 6-3 lead. He then hit a 2-3un triple in the top of the 6th. Mike had a total of 5 RBI on the day and scored twice himself.

Jim Dolan scored three times and was 3 for 4 on the day .

Matt Josselyn had a ground rule double in the fifth inning.

And senior catcher Bob Caliri hit a solo shot over the left field fence in the 7th to end the W-H scoring.

Overall W-H Record 1-0

Next Game is Plymouth North Thursday at Plymouth North.

Whitman-Hanson Varsity Girls Lacrosse

The Whitman-Hanson Girls Varsity Lacrosse team won a non-league game versus Oliver Ames this afternoon 9-7. The Panthers fought back from a 5-4 deficit in the first half. Whitman-Hanson was aggressive on the draw and on every loose ball. Kasey Molito had 12 saves in the game and she was supported by a stellar defense led by Jess Nihan and Camille Miller. The Panthers were led on the offensive end with hat tricks by Taylor McVeigh (assist) and Ali Joanis (2 assists). Also scoring for the home team was Zoe Lydon (goal, assist), Olivia Zimmerman (goal), Mel McAleer (2 assists), and Sami Whitman had her first varsity goal. The win brings the Panthers to 1-2 on the season (0-1 league).

The girls will play Abington this Wednesday.

WH softball defeats Hingham

Sr Emily Cook (1-3 RBI 3R) pitched a 1 hit shutout striking out 7 over 5 innings to lead WH (2-0, 1-0) to a 17-0 win over Hingham. Jr Colleen Hughes went 3-4 with 3RBI and 2R. Jrs Hailey Norris, Julia Pendrak and Amy Lucas all chipped in with RBIs.

WH Boys Lax wins On Road

WH Boys lacrosse team defeated East Bridgewater 14-7 in a non league game. Panthers were again lead in the scoring department by junior Captain Jake Long and his 6 goals. Senior Captain Ryan Kennedy had 3 goals 2 assist . Sophomores Mason Gorman and Shane Ross had 2 apiece . Junior Kyle Neliehy also tallied 1 goal. Strong defensive effort, lead by Senior Captains Joe Collet and Owen Lydon along with Senior Rob Doherty  kept EB from getting any momentum. Sophomore Quinn Sweeney was strong in net and earned his 1st Varsity victory. Win put Panthers at 1-2 on season.

Trever Dennett pitched 4 innings of relief to earn the win after he entered a 3-1 game striking out the side with the tying runs in scoring position with nobody out. Trever also went 2-3 with a double and three runs scored. The Lakers were also paced by Mike Quigley going 3-5 with a triple, a run scored and a stolen base, Josh Harvey and Dan Collins' two hits and two RBI apiece.

Silver Lake beat Plymouth North 11-4. Top goal scorers were Cam Daly (4 goals)  and Ann Chapman ( 3 goals) . Junior goal- keeper Devin Zambruno had 6 saves for the team.

Girls Tennis

The Whitman- Hanson girls tennis team lost a close one today to north Quincy 2-3. Kylie Corr lost at 1 singles 1-6,0-6 Jess Green won at 2 singles 6-3 3-6 6-0. At third singles Jess Gaudreau lost 3-6 2-6. Cathryn Johnson and Lexi Connolly lost at 1doubles 4-6 2-6 and at 2 doubles Hannah Faghan and Abby Pulling won 7-5 7-5!! Great effort today by the lady panthers!

 WHITMAN-HANSON GIRLS TRACK DEFEATS HANOVER HIGH SCHOOL 75-61


The Panthers (1-0) traveled to Hanover High and won a close meet 75-61.  Senior Captain Alex Santos won the shot put (27' 1") and the 100 Dash (12.5 seconds) and also finished 2nd in the Long Jump (16'.) Santos was also part of the 4 X 100 team that won in an impressive 52.3 seconds.  Freshman Samantha Perkins was a winner in the 400 (71.0 seconds), anchored the 4 X 400 relay which won in 4:46 and placed 2nd in the Javelin (57' 14".)  And Dorothy Dimascio-Donohue won the 100 Hurdles in 17.1 seconds, while also placing 2nd in the High Jump (4' 6") and Triple Jump (33' 1") and led off for the 4X400 Relay.  Other athletes with impressive performances included Lily Nolan (4X100, Long Jump, 4X100) , Lillian Perkins-Reisdorf (Long Jump, 4X100, 400) and Olivia Reed who won the High Jump.

Junior Dan Collins pitched a complete game striking out 12 to start the year 1-0. Freshman Mike Quigley went 3-4, an RBI and a stolen base. Junior Josh Harvey had a double and Senior Aidan O'Neill scored two runs.

Zach Simpson was excellent in defeat for Pembroke going 6+ striking out 6.
