The Whitman-Hanson varsity baseball team defeated Pembroke in Pembroke today , 4-0.
Sophomore Rian Schwede pitched 6 and 1/3 innings of shutout ball before giving way to senior co-captain Luke Tamulevich.
Tamulevich came in with men on first and second and 1 out in the Pembrokethe bottom of the seventh, but after giving up a Pembroke single to load the bases, he stuck out the last 2 hitters to preserve the shutout.
Whitman-Hanson scored 2 runs in the top of the first inning as Tamulevich walked and Ethan Phelps singled. Mike Cook singled home Tamulevich, and Austin Hyde's double brought in Phelps.
The Panthers scored 2 more in the fifth inning as Tamulevich walked again and scored on a Jim Dolan double. Cook, who had 3 hits on the day, then knocked in Dolan.
Tyler Long and Matt Josselyn also had hits for Whitman-Hanson.
Whitman-Hanson is 4-1 overall, and 3-0 in the Patriot League.
