Whitman-Hanson Varsity Girls Lacrosse

The Whitman-Hanson Girls Varsity Lacrosse team lost in the first round of the MIAA tournament to Braintree today 17-4. Braintree came out shooting and fighting and jumped out to a 8-0 lead in the first half. The Panthers were able to slow them down and score a couple of goals to be down 13-2 at half. WH had a much better second where Kasey Molito recorded all 9 of her saves. The defense came together to hold Braintree to 4 goals in the last half. Leading the offense for WH was Ali Joanis with 2 goals. Also scoring was Taylor McVeigh (1G, 1A), Mel McAleer (G), and Mik White (A). WH held their head high because they had to win 9 of their last 12 just to make the tournament.The loss ends the season for the Panthers. (regular season: 10-10/ 4-6 league)

WH Softball falls in extras

Colleen Hughes (2-4 2RBI) hit a 2R HR  in the top of the 6th to cut EB deficit to 5-3. In the top of the 7th, Sr Sarah Saccardo (2-4 RBI R) drove in a run to tie the game at 5-5. But it wasn't enough for WH (11-9) as EB scored in bottom of 8th to win 6-5.

WH Boys Lacrosse team fell 13-3 against Cardinal Spellman in non-league action. Panthers scoring were Riley White 1 goal and Ryan Kennedy 2 goals. Panthers finished season at 5-14

Girls tennis

The Whitman Hanson girls tennis team defeated Abington today 5-0. In first singles Kylie Corr won 6-0,6-0, at second singles Jess Green won 6-2,6-3 and at third singles Abby Pulling won 6-1,6-2. In first doubles Alyssa Holland and Hannah Faghan won 6-1,6-4 and at second doubles Mary Pulling and Cathryn Johnson won 6-2,6-1. The lady panthers will host East Bridgewater this Saturday
And can clinch a playoff berth with a win.

WH Baseball

Whitman-Hanson's Junior Jim Dolan and Stoughton's Justin Hutchinson hooked up in a pitcher's duel in Stoughton this afternoon. Each threw a three - hitter, but James Dolan's triple and Ethan Phelps's sacrifice fly scored the only run of the game as W-H won 1-0 to go 15-4 overall , after finishing 12-3 in the Patriot League.
Austin Hyde and Matt Josselyn made game-saving catches on defense, and the middle infield combination of Luke Tamulevich and  Mike Cook turned another game-saving double play.

WH Baseball Cruises

Whitman-Hanson followed up Saturday's 6-5 Patriot League title clinching win against Silver Lake with a 6-0 win against Cardinal Spellman this afternoon.

Sophomore Rian Schwede improved his record to 3-1 as he went to two outs in the fifth inning before giving up a hit. His line for the game was 0 runs on 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4.

On offense W-H's senior Luke Tamulevich was 2 for 3 with an RBI andsphomore Ethan Phelps was 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs. Senior Ty Long had 3 hits and an RBI on the day and jumior co-captainJim Dolan also had a hit and an RBI.

Whitman-Hanson is now 14-4 overall.

Tennis

Boy's tennis picked up their third straight win Monday in Rockland 4-1. Winning in singles for the Panthers was Dan Hickey at #1 and Christian Marquez at #3. The Panthers swept the doubles matches as well. Eric Muha and Brian Fox won their match at 1 doubles. The number 2 pair of Sean Leahy and Matt Hickey only dropped one game on thrir way to victory as well.

Girls Track & Field

 The Whitman-Hanson Girls Track team traveled to the South Shore Principal's Twilight Meet Meet in Norwell Saturday evening  and finished 7th out of a very strong 26 team field.  Taking medals for the Panthers were Alex Santos finishing 1st overall in the 200 Meter Dash in a time of 25.83 seconds.  Lily Nolan finished 5th overall in the same event at 27.23.  The 4 X 100 Relay team of Santos, Nolan, Olivia Reed and Ally Bartlett took 3rd place in a time of 51.30, just fractions of a second behind its school record set earlier this season.  And the 4 X 400 Meter relay team of Dorothy DiMascio-Donohue, Lily Perkins, Olivia Morse and NIcole Norve  placed 2nd with a season's best mark of 4:19.48.

Note - Official results were not available until this morning as the meet did not get over until 10:00PM.

Girls tennis

The Whitman hanson girls tennis team defeated Quincy in a doubleheader today. The scores were 4-1, 4-1. Jess Green in 2nd singles won 8-1,8-2, Abby Pulling won at 3rd singles 8-5,8-6. At 1rst doubles Hannah Faghan and Alyssa Holland won 8-2,8-5 and at 2nd doubles Mary Pulling and Lexi Connolly won 8-0,8-0! The lady panthers play Rockland on Monday!

W-H Softball

W-H Softball 10-7, 8-6) collected 12 hits and defeated Quincy 8-4 to clinch a state tournament berth. Emily Cook and Colleen Hughes split the game on the mound and combined for 5 hits 4 RBIs and 4 Runs. Kelly Burke went 2-4 with an RBI 3B. Julia Donovan went 2-2 with an RBI and R.

W-H forces Championship Game Tomorrow

In a make-up game the Panthers defeated visiting Quincy 18-2 . Matt Josselyn requested to pitch the complete game and was outstanding, even volunteering to take on the post-game mound-raking duties for the team.

Sophomore pitcher Rian Schwede, in his first varsity start as a position player, made an outstanding catch in right field and bounced a long double off the left field fence. Junior Jason Green was also strong at the plate with 2 hard-hit singles. Ethan Phelps had 3 hits , Mike Cook and Bob Caliri each hit long doubles, and Ty Long also chipped in with 2 hits Whitman-Hanson is now 12-4 overall and 11-3 in the Patriot League.
The Panthers host Silver Lake tomorrow at 4pm in a game which will decide the Patriot League championship.

The Whitman-Hanson Girls Varsity Lacrosse team lost a league game versus Pembroke today 12-5. The Panthers could not string together a few good plays in a row all game. Mel McAleer led WH with 2 goals. Riley MacDonald, Katie Molito, and Riley Bina each had a goal. Kasey Molito had 10 saves in goal. The loss brings WH to 9-10 on the season (4-6 league).

Patriot League Girls Track and Field

 PLYMOUTH SOUTH 77 - WHITMAN-HANSON 59

The Panthers (2-4) dropped their meet with Plymouth South at home on Wednesday afternoon 77-59.  Despite the loss, the Seniors kept it close.  Senior Captain Alex Santos, a Patriot League standout, won the Shot Put (29' 3"), the 100 Meter Dash (12.7) and the 200 Meter Dash (26.2) and finished 3rd in the Long Jump (15' 11".)  Also having outstanding performances in their final home meet were SR Captain Olivia Morse who won the 800 (2:34) and anchored the victorious 4 X 400 relay team, SR Captain Lily Nolan who anchored the winning 4 X 100 team and finished 2nd in the 200 (27.3), and Senior Olivia Reed who finished 2nd in the High Jump and also ran in the 4 X 100.

The Whitman-Hanson Girls Varsity Lacrosse team won a non-league game versus Hull today 16-5. The first half was an offensive clinic for WH who held a 9-4 lead at half. The second half was even more in the Panthers favor because of 4 goals in the first 5 minutes. The WH defense combined with Kasey Molito in net (10 saves) held Hull to 1 goal in the second half. Leading the offense for the Panthers was Ali Joanis (4 goals) & Mel McAleer (5 goals, 5 assists). Also scoring to WH was Taylor McVeigh (2G), Zoe Lydon (1G, 1A), Mik White (2G, 1A), and Sami Whitman (1G). Annika Putur netted her first varsity goal, also. The win brings WH to 9-9 on the season (4-5 league).

WH Softball Falls in extra innings

WH (9-7, 7-6) lost to Duxbury 7-5 in 8 innings. Down two, WH tied the game at 5 in the bottom of the 7th when Kelly Burke hit a fly ball to CF that dropped in scoring Colleen Hughes from second. Kristin Arthur had 2RBIs. Sarah Saccardo went 4-5. Emily Cook went 2-4 with an RBI and scored 2 runs.

Whitman-Hanson 72 Plymouth 64

Whitman-Hanson had an awesome day on the track and in the field coming up with many season bests. Leading way was double winner Brett Holmes 100 and triple jump and he took 2nd in the long jump, Alex Oroak won the Javelin, Riley Holland won the Shot Put and was 2nd in the discus, Andrew Newman won the 2 Mile and was second in the Mile, Ian Duffey in the 800 and Jack Ryan won the 400 and anchored the winning 4x400 and rounding out the victories for the Panthers was Brian Edwards who took the high jump.

Girls tennis

The Whitmanhanson girls tennis team defeated Plymouth North today 3-2. The singles swept their points all in straight sets! Kylie Corr won at 1rst singles 7-6(7-3), 6-4, Jess Green won at 2nd singles 6-3,6-1 and freshman Abby Pulling won at 3rd singles 6-4,6-4. The doubles teams were very close matches at 1rst doubles Hannah Faghan and Lexi Connollylost 6-7(3-7), 2-6 and Mary Pulling and Chelsea Getchell at 2nd doubles lost 1-6, 6-3,4-6.

Whitman-Hanson defeated Quincy behind the 2-hit pitching of senior John Murphy.

Murphy was perfect through 3 innings before Quincy's Frazier got the first hit off of him.

On offense, W-H's Brett Spano had 2 hits and 2 RBIs.

W-H is now 11-3 overall and 10-2 in the Patriot League.

WH softball (9-6, 7-5) lost 2-0 to SL despite Colleen Hughes pitching (0ER 6H 4Ks) and solid defense behind her. Emily Cook went 1-3 and was outstanding at short. Sarah Saccardo went 1-3 with a 2B.

The Whitman-Hanson Girls Varsity Lacrosse team lost a league game versus Scituate today 12-8. The first half was a back and forth affair with Scituate clinging to a 5-4 lead at half. The WH defense combined with Kasey Molito in net made the visiting team earn every goal in the second half. Molito had a career night with 20 saves. Unfortunately for WH, the offense had trouble controlling the ball. Leading the offense for the Panthers was Ali Joanis & Mel McAleer (4 assists) with 2 goals a piece. Also scoring to WH was Taylor McVeigh (1G, 2A), Zoe Lydon 1G, 1A), Olivia Zimmerman (1G), and Sami Whitman (1G). The loss brings WH to 8-9 on the season (4-5 league).

Whitman-Hanson baseball defeats Hanover 3-2 in Patriot League game

Senior Co-Captain Luke Tamulevich pitched a 3-hit gem in his first varsity start of the year to propel the Panthers into the state tournament for the second year in a row.

In their fourth game of the week, W-H scored 2 runs in the first inning after Tamulevich walked and went to third on a Jim Dolan Single. Tamulevich scored on a Mike Cook groundout and after Bob Caliri walked he and Dolan pulled off a double steal with Dolan scoring.

In the seventh Ethan Phelps went to second on a throwing error, was sacrificed to third by Dolan, and scored an insurance run on a deep sacrifice fly by Cook .

Caleb Burke, Ty Long and Ethan Phelps were outstanding on defense.

After beating Hanover today, Whitman-Hanson is now 10-3 overall and 9-2 in the Patriot League.

Patriot League Baseball Score 5/12/17

Silver Lake 11
Duxbury 7

Silver Lake rallied from a 7-3 deficit to defeat Duxbury 11-7. After Harry Moody and Charlie Coon each homered for Duxbury in the 4th inning the Lakers pushed 3 runs across in the home half. Silver Lake then batted around in the 6th highlighted by a bases clearing triple by Jake Armstrong. Alex Heffernan got the win in relief.

WH softball suffers setback

WH (9-5, 7-4) lost to PN 8-3. Sarah Saccardo went 2-4 w 2R. Kristin Arthur went 2-3 with a triple RBI and run scored. Colleen Hughes went 2-3 with an RBI and allowed just 2ER striking out 6 in 7 innings.

W-H 2 P-N 3

Plymouth- North hit a go-ahead 2-run homer in the top of the seventh to come from behind and beat Whitman-Hanson 3-2.

Rian Schwede was outstanding on the mound for W-H in the loss. W-H had bases loaded and 1 out in the bottom of the inning but stranded the runners as the game ended.

W-H is now 9-3 overall and 8-2 in the league.

Taylor had 4 goals to go with 7 draw controls to set the pace. Zoe Lydon earned her hat trick all in the second half. Ali Joanis put 2 in the back of the net and Riley Bina also had a goal. The win brings WH to 8-8 on the season (4-4 league).

Whitman-Hanson Varsity Girls Lacrosse

The Whitman-Hanson Girls Varsity Lacrosse team won a league game versus Plymouth North today 16-11. The Panthers took a while to find their groove, but they found it and it led to a 9-6 lead at the half. The WH defense was then focusing on slowing down Leavitt & Kierstead of Plymouth North. The starters on defense did a great job of crashing and holding PN on offense. Taylor McVeigh (2G, 2A) and Mel McAleer (2G, 7A) dominated the draw with 7 and 5 draw controls respectively. Leading the scoring for the Panthers again was Ali Joanis with 9 goals. Mik White, Riley Bina, and Sami Whitman also scored a goal a piece. Kasey Molito saved 10 shots in net for WH. The win brings WH to 7-8 on the season (4-4 league).

WH boys Lacrosse fell to Plymouth North 8-7 in Patriot League action. Scoring for WH were, Mason Gorman, Ryan Kennedy, Riley White, Scott Byron, Kyle Nelihy, Ryan Downing,  MIke Connors. Quinn Sweeney had 20 save . Loss drops Panthers to 4-9 on season

WH Softball Walks Off With Win

Jr Hailey Norris (2-4) hit a 3 run walk off HR to give WH (9-4, 7-3) a 7-4 win over North Quincy. So Kayla Crawford tied the game at 4 with a 1-out single. Kristin Arthur went 3-3 at the plate and scored. Kelly Burke (1-4) had an RBI double in the 7th. Sarah Saccardo, Emily Cook, and Colleen Hughes had multi-hit days for the Panthers.

Patriot League Baseball Score 5/10/17

Trever Dennett improved to 3-0 on the season as he helped power Silver Lake to victory with both his arm and bat. Not only did Trever go the first 5 1/3 on the mound he went 3-5 with 3 runs scored and an RBI double. Dan Collins also added 2 RBI in the win.

With the win Silver Lake qualified for the state tourney for the 9th consecutive season.

WH softball tops Hingham

WH (8-4, 6-3) collected 13 hits en route to a 19-0 win over Hingham. Colleen Hughes (3-5) led the Panthers with 4 RBIs. Emily Cook went 3-4 with 3RBIs and 4 R. Kelly Burke went 2-4 with 3RBIs. Sarah Saccardo had 3 hits (2 doubles) and scored 4 runs.

W-H Baseball Blanks Hingham

Whitman Hanson defeated Hingham 4-0 behind the 2-hit pitching of Jim Dolan, who went 6+ innings walking 2 and striking out 5.

RBIs singles by Austin Hyde and Mike Cook, and an RBI double by Bob Caliri paced the Panther offense.

Whitman-Hanson is now 9-2 overall and 8-1 in the league.

PATRIOT LEAGUE GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

 Duxbury 75 - Whitman-Hanson 61

The Panthers dropped to 2-3 with a tough loss in the rain Tuesday afternoon at Duxbury.  Event winners for W-H were Senior Captain Lily Nolan in the 200 (27.5), Senior Captain Alexandra Santos in the 100 (12.9), Sophomore Dorothy DiMascio-Donohue in the Triple Jump (32' 8.5"), and Lillian Perkins-Reisdorf in the Long Jump (15' 6".)

In a close meet Duxbury jump out to a 52-29 lead on the track and held on for the Patriot League win. Whitman-Hanson top performers Brett Holmes won the Long Jump, Triple Jump and finished second in the 100 and was on the winning 4x100 team, Alex Oroak won the Javelin and Jack Ryan won the 400 and the 4x100 team of Billy Martell, Holmes, Brian Edwards and Shane Walsh rounded out the winners for the Panthers.

With the score tied 1-1 in the bottom of the 7th Jake Armstrong hit a walk-off home run to lift Silver Lake to the win. Dan Collins pitched a complete game three hitter striking out 9.

NQ slips past WH

Whitman-Hanson lost a close game at North Quincy, 2-1 in Patriot League baseball action. Matt Josselyn and John Murphy combined to pitch a strong game, but W-H could not get the big hit. Jim Nolan had the only RBI as W-H lost its first league game.

WH is now 7-1 in the league and 8-2 overall.

Girls tennis

WH girls tennis defeated Hanover today 5-0. At 1 singles Kylie Corr won 6-2,6-2 ,at 2nd singles Jess Green won 6-4,6-1 and at 3rd singles Jessie Gaudreau won 6-0,6-4. At 1rst doubles Alyssa Holland and Hannah Faghan won 6-1,6-0 and at 2nd doubles Mary Pulling and Lexi Connolly defeated their opponents 6-3,6-1. The lady panthers are now 4-6.

Trailing 3-0 entering the bottom of the 7th Silver Lake rallied to score 4 runs to win the game. Aidan O'Neill and Dan Collins each had RBI to make it 3-2 and Alex Bejarano drove in the winning runs with a single past the drawn in infield. Mike Quigley and Kyle Haugstad (W) were excellent in relief.

North Quincy starting pitch Shawn Kelly was tremendous going 6 innings and carried a no-hitter through 4 2/3s and Jack Free had two RBI.

WH boys Lax 5/8

WH Boys Lacrosse team fell to East Bridgewater 10-6 in non-league action. Panthers scoring were, Mike Connors with 2 goals, Sean Joanis, Mason Gorman, Scott Byron each had a goal, Shane Ross 1 goal, 3 assist. Loss drops Panthers to 4-8 on season.
 

Whitman-Hanson Varsity Girls Lacrosse

The Whitman-Hanson Girls Varsity Lacrosse team won a non-league game versus Sandwich today 14-13 in overtime. The Panthers capitalized early and often in the first half to bring a 8-3 lead into the break. Sandwich came out fighting and led the game with a 10-8 score with 10 minutes to go in the second half. The Panthers got back to dominating the ball and the score was knotted at 13-13 to go into overtime. Taylor McVeigh won her 10th draw of the game to control the ball in OT. Mel McAleer got her 6th assist of the game with a feed to Mik White (2 goals) for the game winner. Ali Joanis led the offense with 6 goals. Also scoring for the Panthers was Mel McAleer (2G, 6A), Taylor McVeigh (2G, 2A), Zoe Lydon (G, 2A), and Riley Bina (G). Kasey Molito saved 15 shots in net for WH. The win brings WH to 6-8 on the season (3-4 league).

WH Lax 5/5

WH Boys lacrosse team lost to Cardinal Spellman 9-7. In a hard fought game played in torrential downpour Panthers came up short. Panthers Scoring were Sean Joanis 3 goals, Ryan Kennedy 2 goals, Ryan Downing 1 goal, Kyle Nelihy 1 goal, 1assit, Riley White 2 assist, Scott Byron 2 assist. Loss drops Panthers to 4-7 on season.

Whitman-Hanson Varsity Girls Lacrosse

The Whitman-Hanson Girls Varsity Lacrosse team won a league game versus Quincy today 13-1. The Panthers capitalized early and often in the first half to bring a 10-0 lead into the break. WH controlled the ball the majority of the second half. Ali Joanis led the offense with 4 goals and 1 assist. Also scoring for the Panthers was Mel McAleer (2G, 4A), Taylor McVeigh (2G, 2A), Riley MacDonald (G), Katie Molito (G, A), Riley Bina (G), and Jess Nihan (G). It was the first varsity goal for Molito and Bina. Kasey Molito saved 4 of 5 shots on her. The win brings WH to 5-8 on the season (3-4 league).

Silver Lake vs Plymouth South

Silver Lake (9-3) amassed 15 goals in their league win against the Plymouth South Panthers. Junior Sarah Brockway and Sophomore Ann Chapman lead the charge with three goals apiece. Adding to the score were seven more contributing Lakers. Final score of the game was 15-4. Big home game against Pembroke on Monday. Come support!!

WH softball vs Sci

Sr Emily Cook struck out 10 and went 4-5 at the plate with a 2B, 3B RBI and 2R to lead WH (7-2, 5-1) to an 11-0 victory over Scituate. Jr Hailey Norris went 2-2 with 3RBI and 3R scored. Jr Julia Donovan went 2-4 with a 2B and 2RBIs.

Once again it was a tale of two meets with the Panthers who dominated the field events sweeping the Discus and Triple Jump and first and second in the Javelin. Riley Holland(Shot Put and Discus) and Brett Holmes(Long and Triple Jump) were double winners for Whitman-Hanson, Alex Oroak won the Javelin to round out the winners for WH. Next up is Duxbury.

The Whitman Hanson girls tennis team lost to scituate today 1-4. Alyssa Holland and Hannah Faghan won at first doubles in a very close match that went to a third set superbreaker that they won 10-4.

W-H is now 8 - 1 overall,   7-0 in Patriot League 

The Whitman-Hanson varsity baseball team defeated Scituate today 7-2.

Junior Jim Dolan pitched 5 innings for his fourth win on the mound against no defeats. He gave up no runs on 2 hits, struck out 5 , and walked 3.

Seniors John Murphy and Matt Josselyn each pitched an inning in relief as Scituate scored 2 runs in the sixth.

Seven players hit safely for Whitman-Hanson, with Dolan's bases loaded double in the  fourth inning breaking the game open.

Dolan had 3 RBIs on the day, and Luke Tamulevich, Ethan Phelps and Tyler Long each had one.

Senior Tyler Long was again outstanding on defense at third base, including turning a 5-4-3 double play in the fifth inning.

Leading the Panthers in scoring was Ali Joanis (7 goals, 1 assist), Mel McAleer (2 goals, 2 assists), Taylor McVeigh (goal, assist), and Mik White (goal). Kasey Molito had 8 saves in the net for WH. The.loss drops the Panthers to 4-8 on the season (2-4 league).

 PLYMOUTH NORTH 78 - WHITMAN-HANSON 58

The Whitman-Hanson Girls (2-2) lost to the undefeated Plymouth North squad on Wednesday at its home track. , Sophomore Dorothy DiMascio-Donohue led the way with wins in the 100 Hurdles (17.4) and Triple Jump (33') and Discus (71').   Also taking three events was Senior Captain Alex Santos in the 100 Meter (12.6) and 200 Meter (26.4) and Shot Put (27' 8".)  Other Panthers winning events were Sophomore Allison Bartlett in the 400 Hurdles (77.31) and Junior Lilly Perkins-Reisdorf in the Long Jump (15' 6.5'.)

Whitman-Hanson Varsity Girls Lacrosse

The Whitman-Hanson Girls Varsity Lacrosse team won a non-league game versus Hull this afternoon 13-6. The Panthers did a good job spreading the wealth on offense with 10 different players scoring. Leading the pack was Mik White with her first hat trick. Ashley Memmolo recorded her first varsity goal. Also scoring goals were Riley MacDonald (2), Sami Whitman, Taylor McVeigh, Mel McAleer, Olivia Zimmerman, Ali Joanis, Zoe Lydon, and Sarah Conant. Every player on the WH roster contributed. Kasey Molito had 10 saves in goal. The win brings the Panthers to 4-7 on the season (2-3 league).

Walk Off Win for Baseball

> Austin Hyde's Walk-Off Gives First Place Whitman-Hanson Fifth Win In A Row

> Senior Austin Hyde had a walk-off single with bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the seventh to give the Panthers the 4-3 win over visiting Duxbury.
>
> Co-Captain Luke Tamulevich started the inning off with a walk and went to second on a wild pitch. With one out junior Co-Captain Jim Dolan also walked before he and Tamulevich pulled off a double steal.
>
> Duxbury then intentionally walked sophomore Mike Cook before Hyde delivered a single up the middle through the drawn in infield.
>
> Sophomore Rian Schwede pitched 6 strong inning for W-H, giving up 2 earned runs on 5 hits, walking 2 and striking out 3.
>
> Dolan came on in relief and pitched the 1-2-3 seventh before Hyde's heroics.
>
> Whitman-Hanson is now 7-1 overall, its only loss a 2-1 setback in the Commonwealth Classic Invitational Tournament to the recently ranked Number 1 team in Western Mass, Division 1 Minnechaug Regional.

> In Patriot League play, W-H is now 6-0.

Duxbury softball outlasts WH

WH (6-2, 4-1) lost 11-10 in a back and forth game at Duxbury. Sr Sarah Saccardo went 3-4 with 2 2B, RBI and 2R. Sr Emily Cook went 3-5 (RBI 2R). Sr Kelly Burke went 2-5 (3 RBI). Jr Colleen Hughes went 4-5 (RBI 2 R). Jr Hailey Norris went 1-3 (RBI 2 R). The Panthers had 15 total hits on the day.
